sound setup

I am new to the whole sound world, so hear me out please. I am getting a new sound system, that I don’t want to pay a arm and a leg for. Mostly I will use it for gaming, with a little music and dvd. what I am thinking is-

Creative Inspire 5300 5.1

Either my integrated ac97 5.1 audio, OR Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!, OR Turtle Beach, Santa Cruz.

is there a better 5.1 sound system for around that price range, and can I use my ac97 audio?

I have the 5300`s in use. Must say they deliver very good 5.1 sound with my SB Live 5.1 sound card. In addition to these, you might check out the Logitec Z series 640`s and Altec Lansing 251`s which sell for a similar price and are 5.1 also. As for your AC97 onboard sound, if they are 5.1 compatible it should drive your 5.1 speakers. That said...I think I would go with one of your other sound card choices just to remove any inherent doubt about compatibility. Good Luck!
