I AM TOTALLY AT A LOSS. I HAVE A HOME STUDIO AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, I CANNOT
FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT.
I CANNOT HEAR PRE-RECORDED AUDIO TRACKS WHEN I OVERDUB! I CAN ONLY HEAR MY
CURRENT INPUT.
I have a Power Mac G5 (dual 1.8gHz). I have a MOTU 828mkII and I am running
MOTU's AudioDesk software. I am running Mac OS X version 10.3.2.
Whenever I do overdubs, I plug my headphones into the headphone jack in the
front of the MOTU 828mkII. In my headphones, I am able to listen to the
pre-recorded tracks PLUS whatever I am overdubbing at the time.
I have NEVER had any problems with my setup...until today.
FOR SOME REASON THAT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT, I cannot hear my pre-recorded tracks
in my headphones! I can only hear whatever I'm overdubbing...Naturally, this
is NOT acceptable for doing overdubs, since I need to hear the pre-recorded
audio in order to stay in synch while I'm overdubbing!
The reverse is true when I listen to my audio through my studio monitors. I
can hear ONLY pre-recorded tracks but NOT what I'm overdubbing.
I tested this by plugging my microphone into Input #1 on the front of the 828.
When I tap or sing into the microphone, I hear ONLY the microphone in my
headphones. I can NEVER hear the live microphone through my studio monitors.
The only thing that I have done differently recently is that I bounced to disk
a couple of projects and then exported them to AIFF format so that my CD burn
software (Roxio Toast) could create a CD from them.
BUT I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH TRACKS THAT I HAVE NEVER BOUNCED TO DISK!
All of a sudden, I cannot use my recording system, and I actually had to cancel
a recording session because of it! I feel like a TOTAL IDIOT and I cannot
figure out what I have done wrong!!!!!
COULD SOMEONE PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! At this point, ANY sincere bit of
information or tips would be much appreciated! My system is nothing but a very
expensive paperweight unless I can figure this problem out!

Go to your Audio Monitor window (Cmd-A). Is the little headphone icon clicked
on in the header? If not, this will mute audio in record-enabled tracks. This
will often become de-selected when you trash preferences or rebuild the
desktop.
