I've noticed that when you buy a DVD Rom Drive you have a software option which costs about $30 extra.

Do you have to pay the extra for the software or can you save some money and use the Win98SE Media Player instead.
Thanks,

I believe you're talking about software DVD player like PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc. Well, if you don't have such software player, then you definitely need to get one in order to watch DVD videos. Media Player won't play DVDs (not sure if the latest 9 series will do or not).

I would go for the software option... though im sure you can get cheaper than that.
My retail "blue box" liteon 16x dvd came with a full verison of powerdvd, and it was still extreemly cheap.
