Can I format a NTFS hard drive directly? Tags: Hard Drives NTFS Storage Last response: January 16, 2003 10:48 PM in Storage Share jy88888888 January 16, 2003 2:36:09 PM Hi, I had WinXP on a Maxtor 60Gb in NTFS mode. I restarted, and booted up with a Win98 startup disk inserted. I formatted the only partition while it was in NTFS mode and then tried to install Win98 SE. It froze during the installation of driver for a IEE 1394 thingie because I skipped the driver. I pressed reset and now the monitor doesn't respond on bootup. Its being repaired now - The question is, Did it crash because I had to convert back to FAT32 first, then do the formatting?
