Yes you should obtain the OEM cable but if you have phon tools you can get
one without phone tools on ebay.
Phone tools can back up your contacts. You can use any phone that is made
to work for your carrier just change sim cards and go.
Any other phone would need to be unlocked. It should not take 3 months to
unlock a phone. It is almost instant and it can be doen without sending in
your phone.
