Look at the users manual, which you can download from HP. Not all laptops have switches though, so there might be an icon in the tray next to the clock that is used to enable and disable the wifi.

Hi, thanks for that, I'll download the manual. There is an icon where you said it will be, now that i'm connected. It wasn't there when I couldn't get connected using f12. This is a steep learning curve for me!
