Massive slowdown in KotOR 2 on Dantooine.

I'm getting massive slowdown in KotOR 2 when you're outdoors on Dantooine?
I'm talking major unplayable slowdown. The bizarre thing is that it's
sporadic. I can get rind of if for a couple of minutes by going to advanced
graphics option and toggling FSAA. The rest of the game so far has run
fine.

Anyone else getting this problem.

My Specs:
Athlon 64 6200+
Radeon X850 XT graphics card
NForce 4 motherboard
Audigy 2 sound card
2GB DDR 400 RAM
RAID 0

KotOR 2 (and the original IIRC) really don't like ATI cards.

I know that it prefers NVIDIA cards, but surly this can be happening in
every ATI card. It wouldn't have got past play testing. Assuming they did
play test it.

That's your problem. No slowdowns at all and I have a Geforce FX 5900.

What are your settings? Both in Nvidea control panel and in-game. I was at
1024x768 at the mining station and framerate went down to the teens in the
fuel statiion. Had to switch to 800x600. I aslo have a 5900. And an
A64 2800+ and 512M ram.

I'm running 1280x1024x85 and in-game I have AA at 4x, AF at 2x,
vsync off. Some parts hit 25-30 fps (which I consider low for 85
hrtz) and this is usually when I encounter smoke.

Usually I'm at50-60 fps which is perfect. I get this especially
on-board a ship. Lightsabre combat looks fantastic.

The slowdown thing (at least for me) isn't a normal performance issue. The
game normally runs smooth will all setting maxed out. However when out
doors on Dantoonie it will start off fine for a short while then grind to a
halt. It's got to be a bug. You're may well be right about it only
manifesting it's self on ATI cards though.

Try adding the following line to your kotor2.ini

[Graphic options]

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

This workaround seems to help most people who experienced this problem.
It is a game-bug related to ATI-Cards.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
