Buffalo Nfinity - ISP wont give details...

our ISP wont give us our details...

We have a Buffalo Nfiniti modem/router and need to reconfigure the network, but we couldnt find the password to access the config.

it turns out that the ISP had configured it the first time, and they wont give the password to access config of our own modem!

In fact, they refuse to give us the username and password of our own DSL account.. so we cannot just reset the thing.

Their "policy" is to take the modem/router to their service desk, wait 1 week for them to configure it (including WIFI key and all the rest) and then of course must pay for the service..

Is there a way around to hack into our own modem/router so that we can configure it ourselves?

This is one of the reasons I won't bother with a combination modem / router. Go with a modem, and add your own router. If you need to change something in the router after the fact, it's yours, you set it up, if you need to reset it push a button and go for it...

The fact the won't give you your own account details is very concerning though. Why not switch providers?

they are the main provider in this country (including phone line) so the connection is a bit faster better than from a sub-provider. Its also a government company, corruption...

we may switch provider eventually, but I t would be nice to be able to bypass their f... money leeching and controlling ways

Sounds like a reasonable policy to me. If you are only renting the modem/router it is not yours to reconfigure any way you see fit. It's their equipment. If they don't want the customer futzing around with it that's their prerogative. However, if you actually own the equipment then simply refer to the documentation that came with it for reset instructions.

This modem/router is our own property, we bought it separately and we know how to reset it.
(We had returned their modem, yet we still paying the same subscription)
the problem is that they refuse to give us the login/password of our own DSL account
so if we reset we wont be able to connect again,

Why not just look up the exact model at the buffalo website? Seems they have setup cd software you run for most of them, but you never know for sure unless you have the exact MODEL.
