USB adapter not working on new computer

Hello,
I have an older computer (hp compaq) that was wiped clean and windows xp professional (version 2002 service pack 3), Internet explorer and Microsoft were installed. I took the USB wireless adapter (belkin 54g usb network adapter, which stills works on my old computer) and installed onto the new one. It shows good strength but is limited or no connectivity and will not allow any Internet access. I have tried your other suggestions of ipcong/renew, win socket commands and all my settings are correct. Do you have any other suggestions to try. I've been trying to figure this out for over a week and am frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help!

The adapter may be turned off and needs to be enabled in the network adapters page. I would go into device manager and see what it says for that adapter under the network adapters. Does it say that the device is working properly ?
