KOTOR2: Bad Atton bug

KOTOR2 has been a bugfest from the start, which is a shame given you
can see a really good game shining through. Perhaps I should have
done what I did with #1 and waited until it was fully patched before
playing...

Anyway, I've played through the bugs so far but I've hit something I
fear will be a big problem. Every time I restore a game with Atton in
my party his Light/Dark slider gets reset to where it started. Since
I'm all the way pegged at "Light" already, this is a problem. Has
anyone else encountered this? Any clues how to fix it? And, lastly,
will this cause me major hassles later on?

I'd like to make him a Jedi... can I still do that if his slider keeps
resetting?

Oh, god, I just realized that it isn't just Atton. Every party
member's light/dark slider gets reset to some old level whenever I
restore the game. I had Handmaiden's pegged to the top, too, and now
it's about 1/4 of the way down. I can recreate it easily. I can load
any saved game, remove someone from my party, add someone else, check
their slider and quicksave. When I restore, their slider is way lower
than it was when I saved.

I give up. I played through the constant crashes to desktop, but when
I can't even roleplay my party members and get their sliders moved up,
it simply isn't worth it. Whatever.

Nope.

You don't have Influence over them. Try talking to them and gain Influence.

Are you suggesting its a feature? Everytime you save and load you need to
reset the influence level by speaking to the other characters again? I think
I have missed something myself.

Never had that issue in the game. So I don't know what you're talking about.

The more Influence you have, the greater a percentage of your light/dark
they have.

I know that, but it has *absolutely* nothing to do with what I posted.
Did you read my problem?

I can load any saved game, even saves from hours and hours ago, and my
party members light/dark sliders will reset to their initial positions
when I picked them up. It has nothing to do with influence. I have
confirmed the problem in any number of ways.

Just curious have you checked out the Obsidian Entertainment
forums? I don't recall checking for this issue but my party
definetly changed alignment and I did a lot of reloading
(quickreload though).

I don't recall seeing this issue ever.

I didn't pay much attention to his alignment (apart from the fact it was
always light-sided). Assuming that I suffered from the bug as well
though, yes, you can still make him a Jedi. The only requirement is that
you influence him, which is not that hard to do (he was my first
conversion).

How? I get no influence options unless it involves playing Pazaak
which I'm not doing right now. Do I need to play Pazaak with him?

I don't think playing Pazaak is that necessary for the influence, but
you should probably beat him at least once, just to be sure.

Influence came from other NPCs (ie. other party members and occasionally
from a stranger) basically saying things that bring up new dialog
options. The further you get in the game, the more dialog will (or
should) appear.

I just confirmed the bug. Now I know why I never managed in
making him Jedi. I kept reloading.

Screw this. This bug is unforgivable. I'm shelfing the game.

You didn't read my above post! The bug may be there, but it doesn't matter.

I highly suspect that Atton's alignment has nothing to do with whether
he becomes a jedi or not (read: influence makes him a jedi, not his
alignment).

I'm going to check out some game guides but from what I can see I
keep gaining influence and never get a chance to ask him about
his past.

The only way this is going to work is if I post some slight spoilers, so
if you want advice, you'll have to grit your teeth:

When you go to Naa Shadaar, you'll eventually come across two Twlieks
(or whatever they're called) who basically tell you that Atton has a
past on Naa Shadaar that he's never told you about. When you talk to
Atton after that event, you'll get new dialog.

After certain bits of dialog with Kiera, you may get more to talk to
Atton about.

After completing the primary objective (i.e. finding the Jedi) on a
planet, a new scene may trigger that allows you to talk to Atton further.
