I got a WD 80gb SE and i only score 21,500kB/s in sisoftsandra bench, in comparison the hardrive should score about 31,500 according to the sample benchmarks given. Whats holding it back? ps i use a single fat32 partition

Simple solution: Use a different program.

Sandra HDD benchmark varies depending on drive partitioning, how fragmented it is and especially how full it is.

Ive compared a bare partition to one thats 2/3 full and ive seen it benchmark 50% less.

I guess you've got the WD on IDE1 or IDE2 on the motherboard. Try connecting your drive to the Highpoint 372 IDE RAID controller, IDE3 or IDE4. You'll notice a speed gain. I had the same with my Epox 4PEA+ board. Hibernate took 30 seconds on IDE1, only 12 on IDE3. Sisoft Sanda showed it as well. Note: Before you switch the IDE connection, turn on your Highpoint 372 IDE RAID controller in BIOS and let windows XP install the driver. Then you switch IDE connectors.
