Have a Motorola V180 from Cingular and need to add a number in speed dial
that includes a pause (to wait for connect) and then dial star (*) and four
digits.

On my old Nokia, which I had for years, it was easy to add a number, then
one or more "p" characters that paused to allow the call to ring and
connect, and then any combination of pound (#), star (*) and/or digits.

I am trying to figure out how to do this with the V180 -- and the
documentation is less than descriptive. Nothing on the Moto or Cingular
sites that could be found with a cursory top-level search.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks!

Try this: When you want to insert a "pause" or a "wait" press the menu key
and select your choice.
Example: Say you want to enter 212-555-2368 pause 1234. Enter 2125552368
<menu><pause>1234.
Pause creates a 2 second delay and Wait pauses till you press Send again.
