Hello. I've been reading posts from these forums for a few years now but never actually signed up to ask my own questions. Finally I did it. So here is what I need some advice on... I recently got a hold of an old Firebox X1000. All I want to do is set it up in my simple home network. I have CenturyLink DSL service and I use an older Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. I've never actually used a hardware firewall before so after a few weeks of researching I figured out how to set up this Firebox between my Qwest DSL modem and the Linksys router. I just did a factory reset and the only software I could find for the management terminal was this old WSM 7.2.1 cd. I manage the firewall with an old XP laptop and the internet works great and I can see the firewall blocking a lot of stuff in the traffic monitor tab. So I guess what my question is, besides just using this totally default security policy that it gives you after the factory reset, does anyone have some advice on some more stringent security settings that I should be aware of as far as just protecting our computers from hackers and other malicious stuff that's out there? I'm not much of an expert on what ports and protocols I should be blocking now that I have a few more capabilities with this firewall. In the near future I want to try to set up a VPN too. But for now I just want the most secure network I can get from this piece of hardware. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
