Windows 7 Home Premium

My girlfriend installed W7 Home Premium on her laptop. Her previous OS was Vista, which was factory installed. Every file she had on Vista was put into a folder titled Windows Old after W7 was installed; we both knew this would happen so my girlfriend backed up some files. This laptop, an HP Pavillion dv6700, has WiFi capability. The problem is the software/ drivers for this are in the folder Windows Old and can't be opened and used. Is there a way to extract these files so they may be used again?

  1. depends. what happen when you try to open the files
  2. No, because there are registry keys that are needed to be created so that it could open the programs. It's better for her to re-install drivers and software in the new Windows 7 that you have installed.
  3. yes when you make a backup you can only backup files like documents, music, video, pictures etc but you cannot backup full programs like MS word they will have to be installed again so make sure you have any product keys. as for drivers you are better off just doing a search on the internet or go to the HP website to see if there are any windows 7 drivers you can download and install for that laptop

A window opens stating windows can't open the file and lists the name of the file. It also says 'To open the file Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select it from a list of programs that are installed on your computer.'
