Network connections for microsoft security essentions

i have microsoft security essentials and i try to update and it keep saying error- security essentials couldnt check for viruses and soyware definitions updates. check your internet or network connections and try again, what can i do to fix this problem

Did you try restarting Windows Update service?

Type "compmgmt.msc" without the quotes in a run box. This opens the computer managment console.

Expand Services adn Applications, left click services, left click the Standard tab at the bottom (easier to view the list), scroll down until you see Windows Update, right click it, click stop, right click it agin, click start.
