Currently, they're making the m130 fig 8, the m160 hypercard and the
m260 which is some sort of card, I forget exactly.

They make a lot. They make the M-130, which is a dual-ribbon figure-8.
They make the M-160, which is a hypercardioid version of the M-130. They
USED to make the M-260, which is a lower cost single-ribbon hypercardioid,
which sounds a little less flat in the midrange, and they still make the
M-260.80, which is an M-260 with a bass cut. They also used to make
something called the M-500, which was a dual ribbon with a huge presence
peak, sort of like an SM-57 sound but with a very clean top end, which was
different than all the others and sold as a stage vocal mike.

The M500 is the one I was thinking about. I'm looking for one, for what
it's worth.

And I happen to have a pair of them. I'm selling one (I also have a pair of
M130s). They are both like new, but you're free to pick one anyway.

Long ago I had an M-500. I might view it differently now, but at the
time the lack of high end made it pretty useless for my purposes. I
didn't have any good mic pre's back then, that could make a difference I
suppose.

The lack of high end? Hmmm... maybe you had a broken one.
The lack of nasality and harshness despite a very pronounced high end, that
sounds more like it.

? Maybe yours needed attention, the M-500 is has a fair amount of
high-end for a ribbon mic, the M-260 sounds quite dark though.
> The lack of high end? Hmmm... maybe you had a broken one.
They pretty generally roll off above 10 kHz because the
response in a ribbon is mass controled above about there.
Plots usually show it to be greater than the -6 dB that
would be expected from that, though, and I'm not sure why
that is.

There is indeed a rolloff starting from 10 kHz, but at that point the
response is several dB above zero level and it only falls below zero above
15 kHz. It's the end of a huge presence bump that starts at around 4 kHz.

Send me an email with a valid email address. How much do you want for
the M500?
