Baldurs Gate 1 German version question

Hello!
I just started to play the german version of the Baldurs Gate+Legends of
the Swordcoast bundle after having it sit on my shelf for quite a while
and, after leaving Candlekeep wondered about a translation issue:

When speaking to Chase at the coast and convincing him not to jump my
main character says "Was für ein Werkzeug!" which is "What a tool" in
english - now I wonder do I understand something wrong, or did the
translators misread tool for fool? Because as I understand it the latter
would fit better to the situation.

As the automatic update no longer works with Interplays website gone, I
wondered about the latest patch also. On the german "Legenden der
Schwertküste CD-ROM the patch 1.3.5512 is included but only the
international version - which for example in the initial storyline when
starting the game mixes german and english words. Is there a german
patch 1.3.5512 or later?

'Tool' would be slang for 'work of art' applied sarcastically.

So the english original really says after Chase decides not to jump off
the cliff "What a tool!" and the translator simply translated literally
instead of translating the meaning?
