Recently upgraded my home PC after like 3 years of holding it off. xp2100+, GF3 ti200 and 256mb of SDRAM.

Its struggling on some games tho, so im looking to buy some DDR ram but im really confused. My motherboard is running the VIA 266 chipset so i need a little advice. All this FSB - 133 266 333...400 533 then ddr 1600, 2100,2700, 3200 blah is really confusing. Basicly I want to get this right first time so I need to know what type of ram my mobo can take. What i mean is will my board take pc2700 ram or anything higher?

it will take higher but it's not necessary. PC2700 for a mild overclock should just about fit the bill. Samsung or Kingston (my opinion).

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

The via kt266 is quite an aged chipset and really lacks in memory performance compared to its successor kt266A...but still a good upgrade over pc133. The board offically only supported ddr200 and ddr266 so anything really over pc2100 is overkill especially if you are not going to overclock. If you do want to overclock the highest I would go with would be corsair pc2700 xms.
