I've been able to duplicate my own movies using DVDXCopy but, I am finding that they only play on the DVD Burner and not on regular DVD players. As above - my burner is a Pioneer A05. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can shine any light on this. I've lost too many good movies to childrens grubby hands. :)

The write support of A05 is quite limited. It can only writes DVD-R and DVD-RW which are not compatible with all DVD players. Make sure you get a DVD player that can play at least play DVD-R and DVD-RW.

Wait, you said it only supports "DVD-R and DVD-RW which are not compatible with all dvd players. Make sure you get a dvd player that can at least play DVD-R and DVD-RW" did you make a mistake or something? I'm about to buy a dvd burner too and I am quite confused on what ones will burn dvds that play in dvd players.

What I meant was A05 can only writes DVD-R and DVD-RW. And if you want to play those discs on a DVD player, then you need to get a machine that supports at least DVD-R & -RW formats. Of course, it'd be great if the machine can play all DVD recordable formats.

Anyway, the point is there's no gurantee that DVD-R and DVD-RW can be played in all DVD players and DVD drives. You may refer to the following post for more details:
