Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Do you have a network at home with both devices joined through a router?

Hi! Here's an official guide for you.
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

If the method above doesn't work, try this iTransfer (shareware) for photo transference.

You can buy an app from the ipad app store that makes it easy to transfer photos from the ipad to a Windows computer.
My wife has an ipad and she bought this app and she has no trouble at all transfering photos.

Same i'm using windows seven, when i plug my iPad in i click on "computer" and you will/should see it as a device.
You can then go click "DCIM" and view and or import all/any or view your pics you want to...
At last, iPad fans can try out the tutorials about transferring photo from iPad to Windows computer.
It worked extremely well.
