I'm setting up a Mix Plus system and trying sync Radar
and ProTools. I'm using a G4, OS 10.3.7 and ProTools
6.4.1 I'm trying to use a MOTU Digital Timepiece as
the sync device. I am using an ADAT Bridge as the i/o
between Radar and ProTools.
I can't get PT to recognize sync from the DTP. I get the
impression that the serial port on the Core Card is a
digi proprietary type that will only recognize Digi
hardware. It does not see the DTP from that port via a
serial cable to the DTP RS422 remote serial port.
In my previous setup I was using PT 5 and OMS to connect
the DTP via a Keyspan USB serial adapter on a G3 system
9. On OSX can you use a USB serial adapter as a serial
port to recognize MIDI? I can't get that to work.
I've also tried sending SMPTE from RADAR to the DTP and
the DTP locked fine, but the ADAT interface won't read
work clock or 256 clock from the DTP.
In PT 6.4.1 there in a MIDI configuration setup that
enables you to select a third party MIDI device. There
are choices for Opcode, Ensonic, Yamaha, etc, but no
MOTU choices.
The Digi website has been down for the last week, so I
can't get any info there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well I dunno John, but I replaced the modem out on my G4 with a
G4Port serial adapter, and now I can use my old midi interfaces in OSX
- but midi only, no sync/timecode as far as I can tell. That works
better I have been told than USB to serial adapters do, but I haven't
actually tried them either.

It looks like I need a USB MIDI interface. I ordered a
Roland UM-2 which is on the Digi approved list. I'm
going to try connecting the MIDI cables from that to a
MOTU DTP which in turn will be connected to Radar.
Hopefully that will do the trick.
