"find me" Bluetooth issues

I got the 815b and hubby got the 710, we both got the cheapy hs805 BT
headset...

When I turn on the headset (with bluetooth on) the phone autromatically
finds in within a few seconds. Hubby, on the other hand, has to to a
"find me" every time! So... I went to the Verizon store to inquire (and
get hubby a case)... the gal at the store had the opposite experience -
her old 710 found the headset (hs820) automatically but the 815 she has
to initiate a search.

Question: is this a flaw in motorola BT technology or are we missing
some obvious setting? (the gal and I compared our settings and found no
relevant differences).
