V551 will not recognize my mp3's

I've created several mp3's with MPT's, problem is my V551 will not use them
for ring tones. I can play the mp3 files on my pc and they show as mp3's as
the file type. I see them transferred to the phone, but when I choose them
there is no sound....... Any ideas.
