Question about the TDK burners

I debating on getting the TDK VeloCd 52/24/48 or the TDK VeloCd 48/16/48. I noticed the the 52/24/48 has some new technology called Constant Angular Velocity (CAV) burning. What is CAV? Is it really a benefit? The 52 burner is one sale at Best Buy for 89.99 with a $20 rebat making it about $70. The 48 is one sale at Frys for 79.99 with a $40 rebate which makes it about $40. Is the 52x and CAV really worth $30 more? Thanks in advance for your opinions!!!

If you check the product code you may find the tdk's are just rebadged liteons. liteons have the product coses 52246S (for the 52x drive)

And CAV is the best. This means that the spin of the cd is allways at maximum, so the data transfer speeds steadily increase over the burn. That way you get maximum burn speed.

By the way, the difference between a 52x burn and a 48x burn is ALMOST negligible, assuming you have media that can go that fst too.
I would get the 48x and save your $$$.

plus, if the drive IS a liteon there are firmware flashes you can do that upgrade your drive to a 52x free (course it voids the warantee)

Splendid
I have heard of cd dissintegrating at those speeds. any defect in the disk and it shatters into a million bits. The amount of time saved is so small its not worth the money. I still use a 8/4/32 tdk drive. I just do something else whilt it burns the disk.

more likely is possible, but still not common.
Such drives are pretty well balanced, which means less noise and a significantly lower chance of disk desintegration.
