My voice recognition software doesn't work in XP

I recently upgraded to Windows XP and now I am having trouble with my program, Dragon Dictate. It seems that Windows Speech Recognition is always on and using the microphone. I disabled in control panels but it seems to still be using the microphone making Dragon Dictate unable to use the microphone because it is already in use. I also have Office XP and I know it uses the same speech recognition and I was wondering how I could completely delete it from my system. I need to use Dragon Dictate because the provided Speech Recognition is inferior and I need a better program because I am unable to use my hands for typing.
