Howdy all. I'm planning on building a server in the near future full of IDE RAID 5 (lots of 3ware products and special edition WD drives). I found a couple nice Codegen cases that will fit my needs. They also happen to offer the possibility of dual PSUs. I've worked with many devices that had dual PSUs (switches, routers, canned boxes) but I've never built one with them. I'm hoping someone here can answer a few questions about them.

1) Do the PSUs have to be built to support a dual PSU setup? ie, do they have to work together somehow?

2) Does the mobo have to also support dual PSUs or do the PSUs connect to another device prior to connecting to the mobo (eliminating the need for a "special" mobo)? I'm planning on a SMP system. I usually build AMD boxes but my Linux servers with dual P IIIs perform very well too. I also love the ServerWorks chipset. Any suggestions for a dual mobo would be gladly accepted as well.

3) If special PSUs aren't required, does anyone see the harm in using a couple nice Antec PSUs? I have a Truepower 480 in my newest PC and have been pleased with it.

I can't think of any more questions to ask. If anyone can think of anything else to point out, I'm all ears. Thanks

Well tghe easiest way is to get 2 normal ATX PSUs from Antec, Enermax or similair. One of those PSUs is going to power the motherboard and you can use the second for other devices.
Just connect the wires of the second PSU with the first (powering the mobo) like this: http://www.waterkoeling.nl/files/voeding.gif

If you want both the PSUs to power the mobo you need a special mobo or special PSUs.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dimms when I turn it on
