Is it just me or is the Motorola v220 a piece of junk. I would love
to find a way to upgrade to a different phone. Anyone else having a
bad experience with these? Thanks

my sister has a v220, i personally don't like motorola period, but
people have their preferences, did you jsut get the phone, you should
have a grace period in which you can exchange your phone if your in the
US, or you service provider might offer you a deal on an upgrade if
you've been a member for a while....call 611 and find out.

Just acquired two of the phones in question yesterday so haven't had a
chance to evaluate them. What kind of problems are you having?

No problems at all over the past three months. I would say that its the best
phone I have ever had, much better than the Nokia it replaced.

The only problem I have is the volume. I have a hard time hearing the
ringer or the call if I am in the car even when the thing is turned on max.
My wife and neice both have the same phone and theirs work fine.

I have a problem with my v220. It shuts off and back on when I open it to answer a call. It just started happening it seems, when I did the mandatory Cingular upgrade. Anybody have any ideas?

I have this exact same problem. And this is the THIRD v220 I've had. The first one did it after about 6 months. The next one did it after about a month, and this one started doing it after around 3 months. Mine has gotten to the point where when I open it, the phone will not realize it is open.

As far as I can tell, the problem is due to the little rubber button right above all the other buttons, on the top left. It gets pressed in by the little plastic thing on the display half of the phone, and I think it just gets stuck over time.

Call Cingular and get it replaced. They have a warranty exchange service. Check out this page here:

I'm going to have to do the same, I suppose...for the 3rd time...to get a 4th v220 that will eventually start sucking after a few months :(  I wish they would send me a DIFFERENT phone that doesn't have this problem...but most of all I wish I could get out of my cingular contract.
