Reported disk usage ?

Anyone know why the amount of space reported as being USED on my HDD's is different depending on how I look it up ?

In My Computer, for C: drive when I right click and look at the drive properties it tells me -

C:
USED: 7.99GB
FREE: 3.18GB

Yet when I go into that drive, highlight ALL the items (files folders, the whole lot) on the drive and the right click, and properties, it says that they all add up to a grand total of 4.67GB.

Somewhere in there I'm missing 3.32GB of space on drive C:

The same for the other drives -

D:
USED: 7.56GB
FREE: 11.50GB
FILES: 4.50GB (3.06GB difference)

E:
USED: 10.60GB
FREE: 15.40GB
FILES: 6.92GB (3.68GB difference)

I have emptied all recylcle bins, all temp files, purged all Norton Protect files, de-fragged all drives, run DiskDoctor on all drives and still this is the info I get.

What do you think...?

(I have Athlon XP+1700, 512MB PC2700, Win XP Pro using NTFS. 2 physical drives (40GB (C: and E and 20GB (D) I am set as the Administrator)

Have you selected "show hidden files and folders" under the folder options in control panel?
