toshiba sdr-2212

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this, but i'm starting to get quite desperate so I thought I just had to make a post here.

For a couple of weeks ago I purchased a laptop with a Toshiba SDR-2212 combo dvd/cdrw. It is supposed to write cdr-discs in 16x, but I can only get it to do 8x, no matter what type of cdr-discs i try. The 10x cdrw-writing works fine.
I'm using nero burning rom/easy cd creator on WinXP pro.

Anyone here who has experienced something similar, or got some hints or tips?

is DMA enabled in device manager \ ide properties ??

Yes, I've checked the settings and DMA is enabled for all devices.
