Lexington, KY - To many towers, not enough talking

I've noticed that Lexington, KY seems to have good signal coverage, but
calls are being dropped during handoffs betweens towers. Doesn't happen all
the time, but often enough.

I don't think it's a capacity issue as it happens at midnight as well as
during the day. I had a call drop when I was 100 feet from a tower driving
south on Tates Creek Rd when Sprint's network didn't forward the call to
this closest tower.

Just seems they need to fine-tune their handoffs and handshaking between
towers. Almost seems as if the towers are fighting with each other.

I have a Sanyo VM4500.

Anyone know if this is a known issue with the area?

They are allowed to do maintenance during off-peak hours, that's why the
rates are cheaper or unlimited minutes during off-peak.
The sites can be taken out of service during those periods if need be. So,
capacity comes into play if the surrounding Cell Sites are being used for
you call and they are handling a lot of calls.

100 Feet from the tower doesn't mean much when it is out of service.
If you get dropped calls, do the *2 thing and ask Clair for "dropped call
credit".

It helps the techs and network engineering know there is a problem.

I'm having more issue recently about calls not transfering between towers
then before. During the past couple of weeks the problems seems to have
gotten worse. Had my Sanyo VM4500 checked and it was ok. Any ideas if
SprintPCS is just not paying attention to their network here in Lexington?

The issue with calls not transferring to other towers in this particular
stretch of road exists during the day as well as night (anytime). I'll drop
a call next to a SprintPCS tower once the signal from the other towers get
weak, and i'll pick it up again immedietly with 4 bars.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest calling SPCS CS on *2, and tell the rep
you want to make a trouble ticket. Have the address handy where you notice
the problem first starts (at least an intersection), when giving out the
details.
