That's good info.

I've still got a fileplanet account. I'll try to do the same.

Uhm, I don't think you're allowed to tell anyone about your
impressions of the game:

"You agree not to disclose or provide the Product, documentation, or
any related information (including the Product features or the results
of use or testing) to any third party, for a period of one year
following receipt of the Product or commercial release of the Product,
whichever occurs first. However, you may disclose confidential
information in accordance with judicial or other governmental order,
provided you shall give Microsoft reasonable written notice prior to
such disclosure and shall comply with any applicable protective order
or equivalent."

An open beta with an NDA? How odd.

I imagine it's there mainly to stop magazines and online publications
from using it as any kind of 'official' beta-test/demo, given that it's
an *open* beta, and therefore any and all information one could glean
from it is, in principle, publically available anyway...

.... aside from the fact that, as worded, beta-testers can't even talk to
*other* beta-testers about it, which is patently daft.

No biggie on the DL. Too bad about the fileplanet. When they only
offer that for a DL service I consider the offer to be void. Screw
fileplanet and all their kind. As a result of this I consider the game
to be already dead.

But that's just the way I am.

There are things I expect of a game company that wants my money.
I don't get what I want, such as a trouble-free DL, they don't get my
money or my good will.

I couldn't agree more. But every single time I've gone "FilePlanet only?
Screw that then!", the demo in question has been released to the world
at large a few days later. Looks like FilePlanet's sack of cash is only
enough to buy first dibs, not a genuine exclusive.

Cheers!
David...

Maybe I'll look for it in that context.

Ya. Dungeon Siege was pretty, but you could basically walk away from it
and let the game play with it self....pretty masturbatory if you ask me.

* WARNING * In the readme file it lists a host of graphics card
problems ranging from minor glitches to lockups at startup. Radeons
and Matrox owners steer well clear of this Beta. Its multiplayer only too.

What's with all the Diablo clones? Beyond Divinity, Divine Divinity,
Dungeon Siege 2, etc. When will we be able to play a game without
having to smash the mouse button or have 20 speed *in my out of game
persona* to play? If I want to play a quick character, let it be the
character (and not me) who's quick.

Loathed Diablo and Dungeon Siege (shiver), liked Divine Divinity well
enough, at least it's not just pure, mindless monster bashing. I think it
has a lot more depth than either of the Diablos and DS combined. Oddly
reminiscent of Ultima7 in some ways, too, though never quite reaching those
heights of pure gaming bliss :)

Tx for the heads up Sleepy. Just in case I woke up on one morning possessed
by a demonic force that tried to convince me to d/l it & attempt to play it.

Not really. Dungeon Siege 1 kind of has a diablo style interface. It's more
tactical than D2 though, and less actiony. You control a whole party so you
have to let them auto-attack and you just control the strategy of how they
do that and where they move, etc. On the easy setting though the game
practically played itself and even on more difficult settings it took a LOT
of trudging through hoardes of monsters before the game ever got very
challenging. Supposedly the developers have listened to some of these
complaints but I'll reserve judgement until I actually see a demo (may try
and get this beta).

Haven't had any problems with my Radeon 9700. Then again, I haven't
played it for more than 30 minutes a set yet.

Tip: Never buy a house, it cuts into valuable play time.

About the multiplayer only thing, you can host your own local game so
it is effectively single player. It has all the dialog and cutscenes
as well. The graphics really don't look like much of an improvement
on DS1, but that's never really been that important to me. The
opening town is pretty extensive. I hope that you can either return
to it or there are other towns of similar size.

Nor on my 9700 - yet - but 8500-9200 owners will get errors at startup
and 9600 owners will see glitches and 9800XT owners will get lockups too.

I had errors after 5 mins when I tried to set up a LAN game.
Me and my bro liked DS1 and fancied testing this on our home LAN.

Is it pausable, like BG and PST? Or do you have to try and click on
your party members while they're running around?
