Western Digital WD153BA making loud clicking noise

MY Western Digital WD153BA HDD has started making loud clicking noises at random intervals. It was suggested that there may have been a clash between BIOS and Win98 power management settings so I disabled all of them. The noise still persists.
I have an AOPen AK33 motherboard with a Duron CPU, running Win98SE.

Any suggestions ?

  1. 1) Backup whatever is important on that drive IMMEDIATELY!

    2) Download the Western Digital Diag tools and test the drive. If it fails RMA it.

It's always the one thing you never suspected.
  2. Loud clicking noises usually indicate your drive interface (part of the drive) is failing.
