The rule is (was?) that for an existing customer to receive as a rebate the
same discount a new customer gets when buying their phone, your existing phone
had to be in continuous use on your account for 18 months.

With the changes to the New phones purchase web page as of April 14;
Rebate now says:

Mail-in Rebate: Customers qualify for rebate if account is kept active for 30
consecutive days. In certain markets, Sprint PCS Clear PaySM customers qualify
for a mail-in rebate if the account is kept active for 60 days after the first
invoice date and does not have any unpaid past-due amounts at the end of this
period. Requires purchase of eligible Sprint PCS Phone by 5/15/04 with
activation no later than 5/31/04 on any Sprint PCS Free & ClearSM Plan. Rebate
may not exceed total purchase price of phone.

NO WHERE DOES IT SAY NEW ACCOUNT, NEW SERVICE or NEW NUMBER.

Just go to the Phones page, and click on the "Instant Savings" link by each

I actually contacted C.S. and asked them what is the mail in rebate amount
i.e. would it be the same as the instant rebate received by the "new"
customers/activation.
For example the Sanyo 8100 instant rebate is $150, what is the "mail in
rebate" amount.
Has anyone found out if the "mail in rebate" is the same amount as the
instant rebate amount ? ( did not get answer)
I think the C.S. also mentioned something about I have to have minimum a
$45 plan.

Three points.

Max SprintPCS rebate on 8100 has been $130.

Other phones $150 rebate with 2 year agreement
$100 rebate with one year agreement

Instant rebate for New Customers or new line of service, mail in rebate

Well then SprintPCS certainly has obscured any possible way to
understand it, because IF you are purchasing adding a new line of
service then YOU WILL be purchasing and activating.

If you are not activating upon purchase then what???

IT DOESN'T SAY. Other than you get the rebate.

Only you , the original trolling fool and former tag-team partner of Justin

I think this is worded very confusingly. It is clear that the "instant
savings" are for only new customers or customers activating a new line
of service... but it says nothing in relation to a condition for the
mail-in rebate. It could be read that if a phone is purchased without
activation, than new or existing customers could apply for a mail-in
rebate.

Why don't you answer some of the questions you've never answered, like
how you got billed by AT&T when you supposedly never had service
with them? Why don't you acknowledge slamming AT&T for fraud while at the
same time encouraging posters here to switch to AT&T? Pot, kettle, black.

The clauses pertaining to new account or new service appear to apply
only to those wishing to qualify for the instant rebate. I don't think
that part applies to existing customers who only want the mail-in rebate.

I have a Mail-In Certificate card (LIT64821) that I picked up at the
SF-Van Ness Ave SPCS store on 4/14/2004. It says "purchase and activate
a ... phone ... on a new line of service." The store didn't have
separate card for existing customers, though back in Dec-Jan there was a
separate card for existing customers that had the 18-month rule.

By the way, this card lists some new phone models:
Vision Ready Link Sanyo RL-4920 ($150 rebate 2 yr, $100 1 yr)
Vision LG VI-5225 ($150/100)
Vision Video Samsung VM-A680 ($150/100)(combo old and new numbering
systems!)
Vision Picture Nokia PM-3225 ($150/100)
Vision Picture Sanyo PM-8200 ($150/100)

The web site changed on 4/14/04. What is the date that card was printed?

It's not obvious. I think your interpretation is reasonable based on the
way it is worded on the web site; but others here have insulted me
saying the way I (and you) interpret it is flat wrong.

Suffice it to say SprintPCS should have it worded differently.

The card has no print date or month code, but I would guess it was
prepared and printed before 4/14/2004, which was the date I picked it
up. It does say your sales slip must be dated between 4/4/2004 and
5/15/2004.

So we are left unsure of whether that card may be being superceded by a
new version or whether the web site just has very poor wording of what's
going on. The web site did change on April 14.

SprintPCS is of course free to change its plan any time it wishes.

my view on the 18month deal is that they should've started on whatever date,
but any current customers with a contract they should honor those with the
previous deal. I know after 9 months i upgraded one of my phones. I like
sprint, I just think to be fair that's what they should have done, it would
make the current customers much happier and the new customers coming in
would know ahead of time then. At least the current customers wouldn't be
screwed over because it is kind of a screw job to tell the truth. Just my
opinion.
