I have a couple blu-ray movies, but I've been kind of hesitant to invest much into it the format. Luckily, I didn't start my movie collection until DVDs were mainstream, so I didn't have to deal with replacing my VHS tapes with DVD's. But now, I have to decide which format to buy new movies in, and if I want to replace my DVDs with blu-rays.
Is it pretty much the successor to DVD, eventually becoming THE format, thus phasing DVDs out, like DVDs did to VHS? Or does it still have the chance of disappearing, like HD-DVD, or maybe even laser-disc (I don't know much about laser-disc so maybe that scenario was different). Additionally, is blu-ray set to have a long lifespan? Or are we in danger of switching formats not too far down the road and having to "upgrade" our collections again?
