raid vs add memory

I want to know what's the thing to do from adding 256M of 266mhz ddr to have 512M with windows XP or buy a raid controller to improve disk performance (I think that the raid is better), and what controller is best low budget.

If you do a lot of works on your pc that require frequent disk access (eg. video capturing/editing), then raid0 is the way to go. Promise makes good raid controller cards which you can consider.

you need to say what you are doing before any useful advice can be given.

Windows XP hardly works with 256Mb RAM, 512Mb is the minimum if you really want to run any aps/games
