i use this system for about everything u do with a computer
and i find it lagging for god sake it takes 1 minute 43 to just get into the log in screen will my performance improve if i add another 256 PC2100 DDR ram???

Since you're running Win XP, the extra memory would definitely help out. I always recommend people use 512MB when running Win XP.

You might also look into what programs and services are running at startup. The less programs you have running at startup the better (read: faster). A good site to check out
is www.blackviper.com, it has a pretty good list of all of the services you can disable without doing any damage.

It also sounds like your installation of windows might be stale (too many instals un-instals/hardware changes). Try a format and re-instal. I'd still get 512Mb though.
