I am out of contract for a while. Following the FAQ, I called Rentention
and asked for credit toward a new phone. They told me the only thing
available is the rebate offer for existing customer that requires a plan of
$35 and more. I am on the $30 plan offered in Dec 2002. Am I out of luck?
Has anyone had the same experience who can give me some advice? Thank you

Call again and ask another CSR. As stated in the FAQ, their logic is
unknown, and maybe if you were late on some payments that might affect
their thought process. Apparently they are not asking you to wait 18
months to get a rebate, that is a plus, and it is unclear how the 18
month rule is being applied. You might also ask for some "bonus minutes".

It was the same for me. I am on the $30 plan and had not been in any
contract since Dec. 1999. They say that to qualify for the new phone
rebate, the minimum plan must be at least $35.

Yup. If you're only paying $30 per month on the plan they're not making any
money off you. Kinda like my wife - $30/month for 300 minutes. She uses the
$5 PCS-PCS option extensively, using 300-500 PCS to PCS minutes per month, and
only went over her peak allotment once. And that was the month we got married,
and she was making a ton of calls.
It'll be different when I move my main Verizon line to Sprint in June - I'll
need plenty of airtime...
