More about build recognizing ethernet cable
  1. Look in the device manager to see the status of the Ethernet network adapter. Does it say that it is working properly?

If it doesn't show up at all, check the bios to insure that the on-board LAN is enabled.
  2. Has the cable itself been tested and shown to be a good functioning cable?

Is the port on the switch / router on the other end known good?

Do you get a link light on the network adapter?
