Dungeon Lords -- Patch discrepancies.

The various publishers of Dungeon Lords seem just a tad uncoordinated. The
German version of DL was released with the 1.2e patch. Two weeks later,
Dreamcatcher still hasn't hasn't released this patch to the US customers.
And just now, the German publisher (dtp, digital tainment pool) announced
patch 1.3 for the German version for release tonight. This patch will
contain the auto-map feature (and nothing else, and the plot-bugs are still
nix fixed).

Somehow this seems chaotic, especially if you consider that Mind Vision,
the UK distributor, hasn't released the game at all so far (possibly a
smart move). One of dtp's employees expressed his puzzlement at
Dreamcatcher and pretty much stated that he has no clue what the 1.3 US
patch will contain, whenever it is released (or whether there will be a 1.2
patch). They don't appear to communicate.

Oh, well, for once it seems to have been a good idea to get the German
version. Still, I wish they'd fix the classes (so that the requirements
work) and various other gameplay bugs ... I could do without an auto-map.
The game definitely has potential, it's just very unfinished still.

from what I read in GameBanshee's DL Forum (great place for resorces about
DL), patch 1.2 will only be available to German version. The US version will
skip the 1.2 and go straight to 1.3, which will include all the fixes in
1.2.

1.3 is rumoured to be released with Auto map and the missing customization
features. Some even predict this will be the final patch (not that it fixes
all bugs and make DL a perfect game, but means HP is not going to continue
fixing DL after this patch...)

Regards.

The German 1.3 patch does not have the customization features, it only adds
the automap (can be seen here: http://rubyurl.com/XjOB6 ). It doesn't seem
to change anything else, but well, this should make a lot of people happy.

Since the 1.3 patch really didn't do anything but add the map (poorly
implemented at that), I bit the bullet and returned the game today. It's
the first game I have ever returned, and it's highly unusual that stores
here take back opened boxes. They said that they got many similar
complaints about DL, so they made an exception.

It's such a shame, because the potential is there, clearly. I don't really
care about the 40 Euro (wasted more on games that didn't "do" it for me),
but here I actually want to make a point and get across to the publisher
and developer that *this* is below a tolerable line, even by today's "let's
just release it and then patch it a few times" standards.

I picked up the extended version of The Fal insteadl, which was equally
unfinished when it came out last year. It seems to be quite playable now,
though, and it was cheap. Not out in the US yet.

It's a shame that you didn't enjoy the game. Many still enjoy the game
dispite all the bugs and unfinished features of the game. I for one, after
reading the helpful posts in GameBanshee, have learn to avoid the pitfalls
(I do get hit hard a couple of times, where I'm unable to continue the game,
with no good previous saves, so have to restart the game) and learn to
exploit some "features" due to the unfinished nature of the game (i.e.
bringing up the equipment manu to wait for poison/freezing effect to worn
out). I've played through the game 5 times, trying different characters and
builds. Every time I went through, I still discover some new tricks and
exploitable features.

Well, maybe next time, when this game landed in the bargain bin and is
properly patched, you may reconsider getting it.
