Making sure this can done - 2OS, one in VM

I have Win 7 64 bit Home Premium on my C drive (HDD 0) and Win 7 32 bit Home Premium on a virtual disk (HDD 1). I'd like to run W7-32 occasionally from within W7-64 since Canon doesn't believe in 64 bit drivers for my hardware.
If I've read the forums correctly, I can install VMWare or Virtualbox and boot up the W7-32 so I can use my kit. Correct? Or do I need to dual boot?

you do not need to dual boot. you can use the vmware or virtualbox for your printer.

Actually it's a scanner. But I've yet to figure out how to run Win32 as a virtual machine in VMWare without having to reinstall the OS. VMs help is of no use.
