Is non-ecc the same as regular ram?

Yup. ECC is usually the more expensive, as it's less inclined to have errors, but runs slightly slower as a result.

ECC is usually overkill for your average home user.

Splendid
ECC - Error correction control. ecc memory has an extra memory chip for correcting memory errors. if ur running a server or highend editing use the ecc if the board supports it. If u mainly run games get non-ecc memory. its cheaper than the ecc memory.
