I'm looking to get a power supply for my case. I don't want, and I don't think I need, to get the most expensive name-brand kind.

My computer will be fairly simple: motherboard, cpu, heatsink/fan, 1 stick of ram (256mb), floppy, hard disk, cdr, video card, & case fans. (i think that's pretty much all).

I found these power supplies for a more than reasonable price:

PowMax 400W Brand New for $6.99
+3.3V : 28A
+5V : 30A
+12V : 25A
(it's extremely hard to find a PS with more than 12A Max(A) on the +12V output... unless you want to pay over $50+ dollars)

The other power supply is:

Achieve 500W Dual fan power supply, Brand new retail: $27.77
Output: +3.3V +5V +12V -12V -5V +5VSb
Max (A): 30A 50A 25A 0.8A 0.5A 2.0A

Does anyone know much about these power supplies? Any comments, suggestions?

Thanks!

Nice prices. I am sure that my friend Sang over at Powmax would like me to say for you to use them.

What configuration of parts are you buying a new PSU for?

You might want to write to David Stellmack to see if he has any input on those two manufacturers. I haven't used either one. Stellmack@Tomshardware.Com

From my experiece, both units you have there are good and beefy.

good values for the 5v line as well as 20+A on the 12V line.

Either will suffice quite nicely.
Has the powMax got dual fans?
If not i would go the otherone... besides the price looks a bit TOO good to be true.

I know the price for the PowMax sounds too good to be true, the unit actually retails for around $40 bucks, but this guy on ebay is selling them in bulk for $7 bucks each. He's got close to 200 units.

Others on ebay are selling the same power supply for much more. This guy is selling it the cheapest. No dual fans with this one though.

Here is the link to the other power supply:

LOL ok... im just a suspicious bastard really.
I still think they are too cheap to be true... fell of a back of a truck or something.

Besides, i prefer at least a 2 fan model for better cooling.

hahaha...6.99?...those things have to be warm to the touch  ...as long as you arent overclocking or stressing your system, then either power supply should work fine
