I am running Windows 7 64 bit and direct connected into my wall. I don't use a router. My internet service is through my apartment complex, it comes with the rent. They make us use a company called Korcett. I play an old game, and to play this game, I must have a public IP. Until a few days ago, my computer was connecting to the internet fine via public IP. I had internet access Thursday morning, but by Thursday evening (no changes that I can think of, that is unless there was an auto-update that I wasn't aware of) I came home and didn't have game access or even internet access at all.
When I call Korcett and have them switch my computer off of a public IP, I can connect to the internet. But due to the nature of the game, can't connect without a public IP.
I don't think the issue is w/ my card since I can connect when I'm not on a public IP. I have noticed that when I am not on a public IP I have a default gateway. When I change back to public, my default gateway goes away. I'm not sure if that's typical or if that's an issue.
Whether I run a troubleshoot test on "Network Adapter" or "Internet Connections" I get the same result... "Problem found: Local Area Connection "doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I can't click "view detailed information" because I have no internet access on the public IP, and there is no problem for the troubleshooting to find when I am on non-public IP.
