I have the opportunity of buying a 1091A sub, and would like advice please
on whether it will be compatible with my pair of 1030 speakers. I might in
time buy 3 more for 5.1 work. Genelec's info seems to be that the 1091A was
intended for use with the 1029 speakers.

Not recommended. Not recommended at all. 1092A and upwards, or take a look
at the new 70-series.

The 1091A will not work correctly with anything other than 1029A's,
2029A's or 8030A's.
The 1091, 92 and 94 have been discontinued.
Go by a 7060 or 7070 for 1030's
