If someone had offered a bet that Blizzard would release another content
update for Diablo II, I would have accepted it ... and now lost it. They
announced a new upcoming patch (1.11) on http://www.battle.net/ (news from
July 29th). No release date has been mentioned, though some Tawainese site
quoted a August release (see alt.games.diablo),
Now, what does this mean? A content update for a five years old game,
especially after Blizzard's previous statement THAT 1.10 would be the last
update of the game? Is this a hint at Diablo 3? Or is it releated to the
plans to port D2 to the next-gen consoles?
I'm really surprised at this. Blizzard seemed to be very caught up in WoW,
and D2 with its free online playing didn't seem to fit into their plans.

Oooh, I still have D2 installed...might take it for a spin when the patch is
out. Any patch notes as yet?

Maybe that's why they're putting out a 1.11 patch - to kill off D2
already and get those people over to WoW.

Probably the same one (1.07?), but as soon as you connect to battle.net, it
will auto-update to 1.10. The update can be downloaded manually, too.

Basically, they claimed it bypassed the CD-Key check. In addition, they
also claimed that bNetD ripped the source from Battle.net, since it
emulated known flaws.

And it should be noted that those supporting bNetD, such as the EFF,
suddenly and silently melted away when the emulated bugs were
described. (As if any honest person believed their story about a
clean-room implementation anyway...)
