Windows 7 Favorites Toolbar missing

I feel so embarrassed, where is my favorites list and why is there not a simple button to push. Is it because of the website I am using? ( gmail.com)

look up in the top right hand corner of your screen. You should see a house, a star and a thing that looks a little like a gear. The star is your favorites menu.

Right click the ribbon (the zone where it is supposed to be) and put a checkmark on favorites.
