If anyone is interested in any free MMORPGs this site is definitely
worth checking out.
www.onlyfreemmorpgs.com
I'm posting about it because they are thinking of closing their forum
section and that would be a blow to a great site. I post there from
time to time, but with only a limited number of users there is nothing
to talk about, so I am taking it upon myself to try and promote the
site. If you like free MMO games it is definitely the place to go.

Thanks for your time

P.S. Does anyone here actually like to play MMORPGs? I havent seen that
many positive topics on them in this group.

Of course not! We just like to bitch about them, naturally.

Lol. The fact that we bitch about them says that we love playing them.
Otherwise, we'd be quiet.
To me, MMORPG is the only real way of playing a *role*playing game (as
opposed to *roll*playing) in a computer. Who really 'imagines'
they're someone else when playing Diablo?

Right now I'm having a blast in City of Heroes, and waiting on City of
Villains.
Matter of fact, I haven't played a CRPG since BG2, I've played a few
console RPGs in Xbox though (Kotor 1&2, Gladius and Jade Empire). Other
than that, it's all been
EQ->DAoC->AO->SWG->Horizons->CoH->EQ2->WoW->back to CoH

I play MMOGs for the social aspect and the fun gameplay, I play SP
CRPGs for roleplaying and the story.

Hmm I never liked COH. For me it was UO-EQ-AC-ENB-EQ-AO-NC-UO:S and
then a game called Rubies of Eventide, which I still play to this day.

the thing is, I'm an anti-'phat lewt' guy. That's why I liked (and
still like) CoH so much. We go do a mission, 'arrest' 300 bad guys in
a series of fast and fun battles, then out. No need to camp a spot for
4 hours doing nothing just for a chance to get a 'hat of healing'. Oh
and I also love trying new characters, in CoH I have some 12 different
characters, hell just started a new one 2 days ago (no, not an archer
or sonic), and been playing this one since then, having as much fun as
I was having the first day (man, forgot how hard those vahziloks hit!)

Hehe well the lack of loot is what I disliked about COH. There really
is no point to costumes, other then making you look the way you look.
(But I only played COH for about a month. Bought the game and did the
30 day thing, think I quit about 20 days into the free month.)
Plus I am more into the cyberpunk rpg's, that's why I liked Anarchy
Online and Neocron 2 so much. But then I got sick of it and wanted to
kill a few goblins and orcs, so I found Rubies of Eventide after the
HUGE disappointment that EQ 2 gave me. I am actually thinking of
subscribing to AO or NC again. Haven't decided if I want a more FPS
or RPG feel yet but so far leaning towards NC.

What else were you expecting the costume to do for you??

Well, I was too used to having each piece of clothing do something...
Increase a stat or something like that, so I guess I was expecting the
costumes to at least boost your abilities in some way. That way you can
try to get better costumes, lol

it's just a different mentality, nothing right or wrong with that.
Some people really love the 'phat lewt' gameplay, I just prefer the
pure fun.
I quit EQ when all there was to do was go to a plane or dungeon over
and over again, or wait at a dragon spot for 24 hours, just to get an
uber item.

By the way, I love CoH, and I could care less about the costumes :)
Everybody there has like 4 different costumes, I still have only the
original one in all my heroes (all 12-15 of them)

Yeah wolf, not saying theres anything wrong with it. I was just too
used to having them do something and was dissapointed when they did not
lol.

Anyone play Matrix Online? Is it any good? I want a new cyberpunk
mmorpg but heard Matrix Online was really really really bad.

I played in the beta. It was dire. You couldn't pay me to play that game
now. Well, yah, you might could, but it would have to be a lot.

I was never really interested in CoH simply because I've never been
into comics or super heroes. However, the DVD included with this
month's PC Gamer (just arrived yesterday) includes a 21-day trial. I'm
currently doing the 21-day trial of EQ1, but plan to try CoH after
that, just for kicks.

I've heard the character customization is really awesome in CoH, and
I'm curious about the gameplay.

Well that is the purpose of a costume after all.

But yeah I kinda know what you mean and i did with the had done some
loot.
Not in the usual magic sword kinda thing, but in more costume options
that could be unlocked by completing mission Arcs.

IE getting access to the Sky raider Gloves/boots/helmet in the costume
editor once you'd completed the arc.

Some of the baddies have really nice costume pieces and it would have
been nice to "earn" access to them as well.

best of all from the Dev perspective , it would still be intangible
untradeable "loot" and thus still avoid the problems they were dodging
when they decided on no loot.

Character customization is huge, just designing your hero you could
take hours and hours. I would strongly recommend joining groups
whenever you can (select the TEAM option and set it for 'Looking for
missions' or something like that). Playing CoH in groups is 20392990
times more fun than going at it alone. (Of course, the first few
levels it's better to go alone while you're learning the ropes, but at
lvl 5 or so, get in a group!)
Gameplay is highly fun, each archetype plays differently (of course),
but within each archetype, the different powers you choose for your
hero also make a big difference on how you play the character. And
even after that, the composition of your team makes you play in
different ways too. Again, I recommend going in groups, not because
you can't go solo, but the fun factor is much higher.
As opposed to other MMORPGs, there is no 'ideal' group composition
here. No 'tank+healer+CC' required. A group without tankers or
healers is not only possible, but in most cases as effective as one
with them. Also, the enemies you face will affect the way you approach
them... do they have damaging ranged attacks? do they have psionics? do
they use fire/cold? are they fast? do they fly?
Another great thing about CoH is the hero possibilities. Instead of
creating a character and taking him to max level, most people
(including myself) keep coming with new ideas for heroes, so we create
alts... and more alts... and more alts.
Just give it a try, again, for people used to the 'gotta have the uber
lewt' mentality, this game may seem too 'simple', but for me, it's just
the best MMORPG I've played (and I've played almost them all)

BTW, play in the Virtue server, in my experience it has a nicer
population as it was originally the 'unofficial roleplaying server',
and it shows (although with all the new free trial accounts going on
now, lots of out-of-school kids trying it out)
