Windows 8 compatibility issue "The Sims 3 Pets Expansion Pack"?

Hello,
I have just installed all The Sims 3 up to The Sims 3 Pets Expansion Pack
I get the following error message

Your The Sims 3 Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 expansion pack. Please update your game via the game launcher.

I have just installed Windows 8 Professional x64 Bit.

Can anyone help me PLEASE!!! I really want to play The Sims 3 but I need to download a patch to fix this! I can't find one anywhere!!!! Or Is The Sims 3 not meant to work on Windows 8 Professional?

Did you check the "game launcher" like it tells you to?

I can't even get to that it loads up and appears for 2 seconds then disappears!! it took me like 5 minutes just to write the error message down as i had to keep clicking into the game!!!!
