Ever since I installed my Audigy2 card my Win98 SE based system performance dropped significantly. I was later told that Audigy2 and Win98 SE don't work well toghether and that my best bet was to upgrade to Win XP.

Is this true?

If performance is a problem with that card, your best bet is to pick a better card, not change operating systems.
