Why is the older Shuttle SS51G described as pleasantly quiet in THG, but the newer Shuttle SB51G is described as loud? Don't these systems have the same heatpipe and fan?
Has anyone seen a review that actually measures the dB level of these 2 systems?
Does it really matter? I mean, these things are basically a single use machine anyway, and don't exactly use the best parts. Have you considered building a Micro ATX system that's just a tiny bit larger? What will your machine be doing?

Well the only real difference between the 2 is that they have different motherboards. I presume the ones with a very fast CPU will be somewhat louder. But we have the SS51G at school with a P4 2.4GHz and they are very quiet.
My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dimms when I turn it on
You can find boxes that are much shorter and much wider that look like stereo equipement or VCR's. These cases look much better in an entertainment system because they more closely match other components, take up much less room in a rack because they are shorter, and usually use Micro ATX boards which have the advantage of 1 AGP and 3 PCI, as well as using standard architecture and BETTER HARDWARE. MSI makes a nice mATX nForce2 board with integrated video and TV-Out, if you would rather use a case with 1/2 height slots, or consider the BIOSTAR mATX nForce2 board with onboard nForce APU and a case with full height slots, should you wish to choose your own card.

You see reviews of this mini systems, but whenever you buy a "system" you limit your options. Consider looking at "motherboards" instead.
